I Can Read Classroom Support Staff
CLASSIFICATION:
Regular, Full-time, (32 hours per week)
Universal Essential Functions

Be familiar
with and adhere to the Head
Start Program Performance Standards (HPPS), State of
Michigan licensing requirements, Education and
Children's Services (ECS) policies and procedures
and agency personnel policies and procedures.

Maintain an
open, friendly, professional relationship with all
staff and families, to include respect for culture,
diversity and ethnicity.

Assist families
as needed to ensure quality, comprehensive services.
-
Maintain
confidentiality at all times.
General Essential Functions
-
Follow classroom
guidelines and rules regarding the health and safety
of children.

Follow the ECS
service plans for job specific functions.

Establish and
maintain a positive, effective working relationship
with staff of varying educational and cultural
backgrounds.

Promote learning
and social skills
Position Specific Essential Functions
-
Be familiar with
and adhere to the I Can Read program's policies and
procedures.

Assist with
planning and implementation of the daily program
according to the principles in the Creative
Curriculum.
-
Treat all children
with dignity and respect, ask open-ended questions
and listen carefully to their answers.
-
Prepare classroom
materials to support lesson plans and the
curriculum.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a minimum of a CDA with no
less than 18 hours of coursework in Early Childhood.
Must also meet State of Michigan program director
qualifications for child care licensing.

MINIMUM
EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated
ability to supervise and ensure a safe learning
environment for children. 960 hours of experience
in a child care setting is required, two years
experience preferred.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to apply Early Childhood Development theory in daily
classroom activities, and adapt to the individual needs
of children; ability to adapt curriculum to meet the
needs of all children.

Knowledge of typical
behaviors/expectations of three and four year old
children
-
Ability to guide classroom staff.
-
Effective oral
and written communication skills.
Special Considerations:
Employees
within this classification are required to:
-
Pass a
drug screen and criminal background check.
-
Pass a
physical examination every two years.
-
Complete
a Tuberculosis (TB) test every two years with
negative results.
-
Maintain
a current First Aid and CPR certifications (training
provided).
-
Be able
to bend, stoop and kneel and lift up to 60 lbs.
-
Computer
skills requirements

Bea able
to sit on the floor with the children
-
Be able
to perform duties in an active environment with
changes in climate and noise levels.
-
Valid
driver's license with a driving record in compliance
with Community Action Agency of SCM insurance
carrier requirements.
