May 11, 2020
Last week the Governor extended the Stay at Home Order until May 28. Our offices will continue to be closed but there are many ways to access our services. We will soon have more assistance available. Please see below on how to access our services.
Starting March 20, 2020 all centers will be closed for children. The centers will remain closed for the remainder of the school year for Head Start students and until July 16th for Early Head Start students. We will continue to monitor the situation and take into account State and Federal government guidelines. We will be posting updates on our website and Facebook if there are any changes.
We also have the opportunity for a Head Start summer program for those children who had been previously enrolled or had IEP services. If you qualify and would like a spot please call 269-464-9526 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. This will be provided if we receive the grant.
Our staff will continue to deliver food for families with educational packets for your children to utilize during their time out of centers. We will also work to identify other needs and help to resolve those needs. We will also help students in their transition to Kindergarten or into the next level of programming in the fall that your child needs.
In order to limit the potential exposure to your family and our staff, the staff will not be able to enter your home until the Stay at Home order is released.
Commodities (will continue):
We will be holding scheduled distributions at the same time and place as our current published schedules. (Except in Jackson – please check Facebook or website for updates on location). We are asking clients to stay in their cars and they will receive a pre-packed box. We are also asking clients to come to the distribution according to the timeslot that corresponds to the alphabet letter of their last name. Please see website for more information.
Last Name A-L – 1st half of distribution time
Last Name M-Z – 2nd half of distribution time
Home Delivered Meals – Branch County – (will continue)
This service will be dropped off at porches or outside the home, staff will not enter homes, and delivery will change to Monday and Thursday, with a hot lunch on those days and a frozen meal for the rest of the normal delivery days. We will be calling clients to check in.
Congregate Dinning – Branch County
The Congregate Dining Site at 360 Grand Ave, Coldwater (Coldwater Church of Christ) will be suspended as of March 16, 2020. The seniors who need meals as a part of program will be allowed to receive at home meals, similar to a Home Delivered Meals client.
This will only be available to those seniors that had previously been utilizing the Congregate program. Please communicate with Program Coordinator at 517-279-8279.
Weatherization/Minor Home Repair/Lead Abatement Programs
Based on State guidance all housing work other than emergencies will be suspended until May 28, 2020. Clients will be called prior to staff or contractors entering their home during an emergency housing situation. Staff may not enter a home if anyone is sick or been exposed.
Foster Grandparent Program
Foster Grandparent Program will be temporarily suspended from March 16 through May 28. Foster Grandparents will receive a stipend during the suspension.
Rental and Utility Assistance and Veteran Programs
Clients who are scheduled or need an appointment should call 1-877-422-2726 for instructions on how to submit documentation for the appointment. In most areas utility companies have stopped shut offs and evictions have been stopped. Clients are still asked to continue to seek assistance so that we do not have a bottle neck when the restrictions are lifted. On a continuing basis intake appointments will be completed electronically for the safety of both staff and clients. There are several ways we have the ability to receive documentation.
The program will continue with an online or telephone based program and students should call 269-986-4149 for instructions.
Educational Assistance Program – Kalamazoo
This program will continue with modifications. Please call 269-373-5066.
This program will be modified for a reduced number of passengers with grocery or medical needs only. Clients who exhibit signs of sickness may not ride. If clients have questions on their ride please call 1-877-422-2726.
The safety of all clients and staff are a priority to us. We will keep you informed on any further actions going forward.
Thanks for your consideration and support!
